Takata airbags: models affected by recalls at Stellantis

As Citroën’s large-scale recall of C3 and DS3 models fitted with potentially dangerous airbags continues, which other brands are affected?

Almost three months after Citroën launched a large-scale recall, the replacement of potentially dangerous airbags continues. An operation almost unprecedented in Europe, as it prohibits the owners concerned from using their vehicle until this safety element is replaced, which could be activated and injure, or even kill, the driver if it is activated untimely.

This “Stop Drive” recall so far only affects Citroën C3 and DS3 models manufactured between 2009 and 2019 with an identified increased risk, particularly in “hot and humid” areas. The recalled models are therefore located in the southern half of France.

Please note that if your model is affected, Citroën or DS will be required to contact you by registered mail. Indeed, during the period in question, some series were equipped with these airbags identified as dangerous and supplied at the time by the Japanese equipment manufacturer Takata. If in doubt, you can enter your vehicle identification number (VIN, in the E mark on the registration document) on the manufacturers’ websites, such as Citroën here.

  • HE DS3 produced between 26 June 2009 and 30 May 2019 (DS was spun off from Citroën on 1 June 2014 with badging that moved from chevrons to a logo specific to the French premium brand Stellantis).

The first reports of faulty Takata airbags date back to 2008 in the United States. A well-known problem that has also been the subject of numerous vehicle recalls in France.
