The French new car market recorded a fifth consecutive month of decline in September, with sharp falls in its national manufacturers Stellantis and Renault, according to figures published on Tuesday by the Automobile Platform (PFA).
After a clear decline in August, the number of registrations fell by 11.07% compared to September 2023, according to the PFA, which represents manufacturers and equipment manufacturers.
With 139,004 cars registered, the market is even worse than in September 2022, when factories were slowed down by a shortage of electronic chips.
Stellantis and Renault fall
In the first nine months of 2024, with 1,265,905 registrations, the market has decreased by 1.76%.
The French number one, Stellantis, recorded a clear decline (-17.52% and 25.9% market share), visible in particular in its Citroën and Opel brands.
The Renault group also falls (-14.27%, 24.4% of the market), with poor sales of Dacia.
The Volkswagen group remains strong (+4.3%) while Toyota (+19.2%) benefits from the success of its hybrid models.
