These are three letters that appear on gas station pumps in France. The XTL diesel is now offered as an alternative to the classic B7 diesel.
An “ecological” fuel?
Compared to a fuel composed of petroleum, this version is presented as “ecological” because it is produced from waste, such as used oil or animal fat. The main advantage is that it reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel.
Its use by individuals has only been authorized since this summer, but it has already attracted certain tourist resorts.
On the other hand, it is a little more expensive on a station visited by BFMTV, the XTL diesel was quoted at 1,809 euros, or 17 cents more than the conventional diesel.
300 stations in France
But not enough to stop its distribution at the stations, according to the company behind this new fuel:
“Today, synthetic fuels represent approximately 14% of the European market: currently 13 million vehicles run on this fuel. In Holland, Belgium, Sweden or Norway, for example, it is more than 10 years,” explains Grégory Romano, general director of Romano Energy, producer and distributor of XTL diesel.
According to him, nearly 300 stations, out of a total of 5,800 in total, will offer this fuel to individuals in France in the short term.
The list of compatible vehicles was published in the Official Gazette on July 2, recalls Auto Plus. A list to refer to if in doubt, although most modern diesel engines can run at XTL.
