Uber will launch in France a service dedicated to teenagers called “Uber for teenagers”. A variation of “Uber for teens” launched in the United States in 2023 and since last September in most of our European neighbors in Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland and even Austria.
Autonomy and security
This new service will be launched on Wednesday, October 30, and will allow young people aged 13 to 17 to travel independently with the VTC service, but providing some peace of mind for parents. It will be offered in 13 cities: Amiens, Angers, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice, Paris and the Paris region, Perpignan, Strasbourg and Toulouse.
No updates required, Uber users will be notified by email on October 30. Then you will have to go through the “family profile” of the application, available in the “account tab of the application”, a service that already allows you to request, pay or manage a trip for someone in your family, but only 18 years or older .
The user can then invite a teenager to create a specialized account on this family profile. This account will then allow a young person between 13 and 17 years old to make a trip alone, but with several security guarantees. Parents will be able to follow the race in real time and will receive the driver’s name. A driver necessarily with experience and with the best ratings received in the application. Please note that drivers can choose at any time to no longer accept this type of trip.

A unique PIN code will need to be given to the driver to start the trip, a way to be sure the teen gets into the right car with the right driver. Finally, in the event of a prolonged stop of the vehicle or deviation from the planned route, a message will be sent to the parents and the teenager to ensure that everything is okay. The service will also allow you to establish a monthly budget for these races, and parents will be able to control expenses.
“Giving time back to parents”
This launch date in France was not chosen at random: two in three teenagers indicated that they will celebrate Halloween this year, according to a survey sent by Uber in October to 4,300 respondents in France. And for 42% of them, it is their parents who have to drive them that night. Or not… with this new service a promotional offer and a first free “Uber for teenagers” trip in France for 23 euros. The offer will be offered from October 30 to November 28.
Beyond this Halloween night, Uber aims to “give time back to parents.” Accompanying your child, for example to his extracurricular activities, would represent an average of 2 hours per week. For a third of parents, it takes even 4 hours, not counting the waiting time at the location.
