Model Y: Tesla redesigns its best-selling SUV

The American manufacturer Tesla is evolving the Model Y, both in autonomy and exterior design. The interior has also been revised.

A classic in the automotive sector. Five years after its launch, in 2020, Tesla redesigned the Model Y, one of the two models along with the Model 3 that represents the bulk of its sales. Design, interior but also autonomy, the American manufacturer brings many new features for this first major evolution in the commercial career of the Model Y.

A light strip reminiscent of the Cybertruck

This redesigned Model Y is immediately recognizable, with a new large light signature at the front. A line connects one end of the front to the other, with more conical lights. This is a nod to the design of the Cybertruck, the new standard bearer of the Californian brand.

This stripe version design is also found on the rear, reminiscent of the Model 3. According to NuméramaThis new Model Y is slightly longer (4 centimeters) compared to the previous version.

The interior has also been revised, with a screen that is once again inspired by the one found in the Model 3. This new Tesla Model Y also visibly adopts the steering wheel buttons to control the propulsion system (Drive, Neutral, etc.). Just like in the Model 3 sedan.

A slight increase in autonomy

On the technology side, innovations remain minimal. This new Model Y gains a little in autonomy, going from 455 to 466 kilometers (WLTP) for the base version and 551 kilometers, compared to the previous 533, in the Long Range version. Which suggests, according to the specialized site Caradisiac, that the batteries remain the same. Performance improves from 0 to 100, with a Model Y Long Autonomy that increases significantly to 4.3 seconds compared to the current 5.

There are already two versions available to order, as can be seen on the official Tesla website in Hong Kong: a Propulsion version and a Long Autonomy version, which has four-wheel drive. Regarding the French market, Tesla, contacted by BFM Business, does not provide any details about the arrival of this redesigned version, produced for the French market in Germany. At the moment it is only available in Asia, the manufacturer specifies.
