Accident, fine, prison: What do you risk reducing the electric bicycle or scooter?

If it is not common, the practice of not being associated with bicycles or electric scooters can make it lose a lot.

When you carry your bicycle or scooter to walk or go to work, when electrical assistance is available, it is limited. The law imposes a maximum speed of 25 kilometers/hour. After which, assistance stops and only your muscles allow you to go faster to gain speed.

But over the years and the change in travel habits, more and more people have put it to practice, and some now go further with what is called “unbridled.” It is a technique that “blinks” the internal engine firmware and, therefore, eliminates the limit established by the manufacturer. The practice is not difficult to achieve, but, nevertheless, it is illegal.

• A punishable practice by law

Unlock your bicycle or scooter can expose it to a fine of 30,000 euros and a one -year prison sentence if you are the owner of the bicycle. It is also exposed to legal procedures, as well as a confiscation of the team.

For “kits” manufacturers in light, the sanction is heavier: it rises to two years in prison.

In large agglomerations, controls are also regular by the police. They have a machine to verify the maximum speed authorized by the firmware and can also perform tests on the march to write down the crime.

On the other hand, if you have a vehicle that was unbridled, like certain scooters that can be found in Aliexpress, the fine will be 1,500 euros, provided you can prove your statements.

• Speed bicycles are not bicycles

Very fashionable in big cities, Speedbike is not a classic bicycle. They certainly work in the same way, but it is rarely restricted to 25 km/hy, therefore, it is not considered a two -wheeled classic.

The law forces its owner to use it on normal roads, avoid cycle routes and wear a scooter/motorcycle helmet in addition to registration and precise equipment.

• The responsible driver in case of accident

Another element against this practice: in case of an accident, it can be declared responsible for damage. For example, if a car or fall stir, its insurance does not cover any damage, if it turns out that it has unleashed its bicycle or scooter.

In the case of a person accident, again, it could be considered responsible, even if it was not necessarily wrong at this time. Speed is considered an aggravating factor, as well as the desire to avoid the internal limitations of the engine.

• Driver’s security risk

Going faster can have advantages, but in the case of an electric bicycle or a scooter, these two means of transport, for the most part, have not been designed to go beyond some speed, even less with electrical assistance.

In fact, the Unback will largely request several components of the vehicle, such as brakes, which will wear much faster, or tires, which will be used more in abnormal traffic conditions. The frame can also be introduced in the case of small repeated clashes at high speed.

In the end, failures can be possible and, therefore, a loss of control.

• A battery that can exploit

Unrucking your bicycle or scooter is also a risk to battery. It is overwhelmed, which can seriously reduce its useful life, but can also initiate degradation, which can reach the explosion.

The explosion is not necessarily sudden, it can occur when the vehicle stops and, therefore, causes more serious damage, such as a fire.

• A guarantee that jumps

Another important element to consider: the guarantee. One of the aspects that we forget too often in the case of a bicycle or an electric scooter is that it has as any product of a manufacturer and compliance guarantee.

In both cases, if your vehicle unlocks, this will cancel the guarantee. In case of a problem, you will not be entitled to any refund or repair through the official circuit. If there is a fault, it will be at your expense.

Ultimately, if the desire to go faster is attractive, compensation represents a much greater risk than the advantages. Beyond the technical consequences that practice can cause, it can also have a serious impact in case of an accident, given the speed.

In addition, the facts generally demonstrate the uselessness of increasing the maximum possible speed of an electrical assistance vehicle, such as bicycles and scooters: on a trip of about fifteen kilometers, it ranges from 25 km/ha 50 km/h only saves a few minutes, most.
