The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Monday a flexibility mechanism to avoid car manufacturers behind the objectives of the reductions in CO2 emissions to pay for fines in 2025.
This mechanism will consist of taking into account the emissions for three years, from 2025 to 2027, instead of a single year, which will give newcomers a period to catch up, without penalizing good students who will have a broadcast loan.
“The objectives are still the same, but that means more flexibility for the industry,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
