Nissan: The Board of Directors meets to discuss the future of the managing director Makoto Uchida

The hypothesis of the appointment of an interim leader is expected to give time to the Board of Directors to decide on the identity of a permanent replacement in Makoto Uchida.

The Board of Directors of Nissan meets Tuesday to discuss the possible successors of the general director Makoto Uchida, who faces greater pressures to resign due to the degraded results of the automobile manufacturer and the aborted fusion with Honda. The people who have said in the past that the position of Makoto Uchida had become unsustainable due to the situation, but that an immediate game was not sure for the moment.

The hypothesis of the appointment of an interim leader is expected to give time to the Board of Directors to decide on the identity of a permanent replacement in Makoto Uchida. It would be a fourth managing director in less than six years for the Japanese car manufacturer, partner of the French group Renault. Among the possible successors of Makoto Uchida are Financial Director Jérémie Papin, Planning Director Ivan Espinosa and Performance Director Guillaume Cartier, Japanese sources and media reported.

Renault will accompany Nissan

Nissan has been sealed for several years by decreasing sales and agitation within its administration, since it has never managed to arise from the tremors caused by the fall of Carlos Ghosn, architect of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, accused by the Tokyo Prosecutor’s Office of Financial Malversation. Seeking to relaunch the third Japanese manufacturer, Makoto Uchida notably announced a plan to suppress thousands of jobs and a fall in production capacity last November. He also suggested that he would give details in the coming months in Nissan’s restructuring.

Renault will do everything to support and help Nissan in the difficult times he is going through, said the president of the French manufacturer on Monday during a lunch debate organized by the automotive sector platform (PFA). Jean-Dominique Senard also told BFM Business that Renault was open to the idea that Nissan signs associations as part of their recovery, provided they are suitable for the interests of the diamond group.

A change in Nissan’s leadership is only a few weeks after Makoto Uchida and the managing director of Honda, Toshihiro Mibe, finished negotiations in order to approach between the two groups that would have given birth to the world manufacturer.
