Renault announced on Thursday his intention not to renew “around 300” temporary contracts in his Sandoville factory (Maritime Sena) due to high slowdown in the public service market in Europe in recent months.
According to group management, the market of this type of vehicle fell 9.2% in January and February estimates grant a new 14.9% drop.
“The new production organization will begin on March 17,” said a Renault spokesman. As of this date, contracts will not be gradually renewed. On the other hand, the 550 CDI and CDD recruitment plan is maintained by 2028, as well as the production of three 100% electric models from next year.
The delegate of the Unión de Fofo de Renault Sandoville, Fabien Glooguen, has questioned European regulations and the excellent mechanism aimed at car manufacturers behind the objectives of reducing CO2 emissions. However, he was relaxed to prevent manufacturers from paying in 2025.
A year ago, the former Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, visited the Sandoville factory with the general director of Renault, Luca de Meo, to announce these contracts and an investment of 330 million euros to modernize the site.
“Anger and misunderstanding”
In a letter addressed to the current Minister of Economy and Finance, Didier Lombard, two Maritime Sena parliamentarians ask him to intervene “to demand clear commitments on the preservation of jobs at the Sandoville site.”
“The elimination of 323 temporary work stations” creates “anger and misunderstanding” writes Senator Céline Brulin (PCF) and deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq (PCF).
The Sandoville factory reached record production in 2024, with 137,000 vehicles outside the channels and management “could have anticipated and organized differently” the transition until the start of the production of electric trucks in 2026, supports the two parliamentarians.
The Sandoville factory, which significantly produces the Renault Traffic, used 1,850 employees and 600 temporary workers last year. It is one of the three public services production sites in France for Renault, which manufactures one in six public services sold in Europe.
