Installed since the 1960s on the A13 highway in the Yvelines since the 1960s, Buchelay’s toll was dismantled on Saturday night to Sunday. For eight hours, around thirty people were occupied to dismantle the 300 tons of the toll barrier, the closest to Paris. No more stops, give way to the free flow road.
“It seems good for traffic,” reacts a motorist in BFMTV.
“It’s a good idea,” said another motorist, believing that making a stop at the toll barrier to make payment can “waste time.”
“It can be practical, now we must not forget to pay within 72 hours,” cancels a third person while driving.
Payment within 72 hours
Since 2024, the axis of the highway between Paris and Normandía (A13-A14) has been operating in free flow, that is to say without a toll barrier. More specifically, instead of stopping in a barrier, the motorist is responsible for paying himself through the Internet, by Télépéage Insignge or in an authorized tobacconist. The payment must be made in 72 hours, by default that the motorist exposes a fine. The Normandy highway is the first road that completely becomes free flow, but other road portions have also experienced the same destination (A4, A79).
“What we see today is that more than 90% of the people who borrow the highways A13 and A14 spontaneously pay their toll in 72 hours,” says François Cornier, construction director within the Sanef Group, concessionaire of the A13 and the A14.
“We notice that this system is well understood by customers today,” he says. In total, 29 porches between fall and Paris will be installed by 2027.
