Ferrari has been preparing for years for electrification for years, starting with the motorization of his formula 1, said John Elkann, president of the Italian luxury car manufacturer on Wednesday. Known for the roar of its gasoline engines, the Branding Horse brand began its transition in 2019 with the commercialization of hybrid models.
The Italian manufacturer must present its first fully electric vehicle for a day dedicated to investors on October 9.
“Electrification is a path that we have been following for decades, starting with Formula 1, after our racing cars to our sports cars,” said John Elkann at the group’s annual general meeting.
“We are very excited to reveal the electric Ferrari,” he said.
In Formula 1, the hybrid motor train was first introduced in 2014, while Kers Systems, which allows you to recover the kinetic braking energy, has existed since 2009. John Elkann said that Ferrari wanted to maintain a “total control” in the key components of his sports cars.

He said that the site opened by Ferrari in June, in his hometown of Maranello, would offer the company greater production flexibility to develop its future models.
“Now we can also say that all our key electrical components are developed and handmade in Maranello,” he said.
Director General Benedetto Vigna confirmed during the General Assembly that Ferrari would continue to produce gasoline cars, hybrids, along with 100% electric models.
“According to our strategy, we continue to invest in these three types of engines (…) to offer our clients maximum freedom of choice,” he said.
Hybrid models accounted for 51% of Ferrari car sales last year. The manufacturer sold 13,752 vehicles in 2024.
