The European Commission proposed on Thursday, April 24 so that annual technical controls are mandatory for cars and trucks over 10 years, to improve road safety.
It is recalled that in France the legislation requires vehicles that are put into circulation for more than 4 years to carry out a technical control every two years, from the date of the last control.
The European Executive also intends to fight kilometric meters and develop new methods to control nitrogen oxide emissions and fine particles.
“Today’s initiative is an important advance to facilitate our roads, our purest air and the life of citizens,” argued the Transportation Commissioner, Tzitzikostas Apostolos.
“The EU was firmly decided to reduce the number of seriously killed and wounded on the roads by 2030 by 50% by 2030,” he said.

According to the European Executive, some 19,800 people died in accidents on the roads of the former continent last year. In France or Germany, technical controls are currently mandatory every two years for vehicles over 4 years.
The commission’s proposal will be subject to the approval of the European Parliament and the Member States.
