135 euros well if you are alone by car: How will checks be carried out in the shared lane?

On the Paris Ring road, a track for the shared trip during the week during peak hours is now reserved. For recalcitrant motorists, the first controls will be carried out from May 2. How will verbalizations take place?

After pedagogy, the sanction. As of May 2, motorists alone in their vehicle that would use the lane reserved to share the trip on the Paris device risk a fine of 135 euros.

During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, this path was destined to transport athletes and other Olympic vehicles. The Paris City Council has decided to transform it into a reserved car trip during peak hours.

Since March 3, white diamonds have been from 7 am to 10:30 am in the morning and from 4 pm to 8 pm in the week (excluding holidays). They indicate to the “autosolists” that they are not allowed to use this route.

10 shape detector radars

After this adaptation period, verbalizations will begin. For this, the radars of 10 “shape detectors” are in place along the device. Not only can they read the plate, but also detect the number of occupants in the car.

“Technology does not distinguish faces, only silhouettes and shapes,” says David Belliard, assistant to the mayor of Paris in charge of mobility.

The software will then examine the radar images and extract those that show only one person in the vehicle. But it is not about automatically verbalizing this basic. “A jury agent of the Municipal Police will verify the shots before putting the fine,” says the elected official in charge of the transformation of public space and transport.

Control operations to give a “strong signal”

But then, how many police officers are planned for this mission? All agents of the verbalization team in the city of Paris can be mobilized, in addition to other missions (parking, red light …).

“Depending on the needs and news of the day, depending on the priorities, they can mobilize. We can also do operations where we will control more for one day, to send a strong signal,” explains David Belliard, while guaranteeing that there is no financial objective.

“We are not there to shoot the pigeons of motorists, but to encourage more ecological behavior,” promises the elected environmentalist.

In detail, in addition to cars with several people on board, public transport vehicles (bus, school because schools, etc.), as well as help, taxis and vehicles of people with reduced mobility can circulate on this road.

The owners of the inclusion mobility card (CMI) are invited to register in the dedicated archive of the City of Paris (Handi’stat Seo), so as not to be verbalized, because the radar does not detect the fixed macarrón to the windshield.

A form that saves time?

This decision is part of a more global plan to transform the device, in particular with the decrease in speed at 50 km/h in this circular boulevard. And according to David Beillard, he already shows results.

“The noise has decreased, the accident rate fell by 4% and traffic jams were reduced by 20 to 50%,” said the chosen Parisian official.

The wizard also states that users of the shared travel route are already saving time. “During the last two months it is activated, we travel faster on this road, between +7 and +8.5 km/h,” he said.

It also specifies that this route can simply be deactivated by the police headquarters, when the diamonds turn off, in case of an emergency as an accident, for example.
