Automaker Stellantis announced on Thursday the acquisition of Hungarian company aiMotive to accelerate autonomous driving. Founded in 2015 in Budapest, the company AiMotive, which has specially designed a software suite for autonomous cars, has already worked on vehicles with PSA, one of the founding groups of Stellantis, and with Volvo. The company has 200 employees working in Hungary, but also in offices in Germany, the United States and Japan. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
aiMotive CEO remains in
This acquisition allows Stellantis to “consolidate its core artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies, expand its international talent pool, and drive the mid-term development of its new STLA AutoDrive platform,” the automaker said in a statement.
The company will operate as a subsidiary of Stellantis and its founder, László Kishonti, will continue in his role as CEO. It will continue to sell to other partners in three areas of its existing portfolio of technology products, such as its intellectual property expertise for microchips and autonomous driving simulation software.
Billing of new connected services multiplied by 10
By 2026, Stellantis expects to reach 4,000 million euros of turnover per year in new connected services (updates, insurance, autonomous driving), compared to the current 400 million euros.
By 2030, with 34 million connected vehicles worldwide, this figure should reach 20 billion euros, the group estimates, or around one-eighth of Stellantis’ annual turnover. The latter announced in July 2021 an investment of 30,000 million euros until 2025 in its electrification and software.
