Tesla sales divided by two in Europe in April, Chinese cars are progressing

Continuous by Elon Musk’s reputation and a rank of aging, Tesla’s cars records fell by 52.6% in April in the European Union.

Tesla sales in the European Union were divided by two in April, while Chinese manufacturers have progressed, according to figures published Tuesday by manufacturers.

Leave the reputation of your boss Elon Musk and a range of aging, the American brand saw that its records fell into the European Union in 52.6% in April and 46.1% cumulative since the beginning of the year, according to the Association of European Manufacturers (ACEA).

Tesla fell to a 1.1% market share in the first four months of 2025, with 41,677 vehicles sold against 77,314 during the same period last year. Leader of the sale of electric cars until 2024, Tesla was surpassed in this category in Europe in April by a total of ten brands, including Volkswagen (which is updated with electricity), BMW, Renault but also the Chinese byd, according to the Jato Dynamics office.

Electric growth “unequal among EU countries”

Skoda’s new electric SUV (Volkswagen Group), Elroq, has been placed at the top of sales. The Tesla Model and, an old market market, is ninth. However, electric cars continue to conquer the European market (+26.4% for a year), reaching 15.3% of sales in April, according to Acea. Electrical sales are progressing in contrast according to European countries, particularly according to bonds and tax advantages redistributed by governments. Germany, Belgium, Italy or Spain have seen their electricity sales explode, while France retires slightly.

“Sales of electric vehicles are gaining slowly impulse, but growth is still very progressive and unequal among EU countries,” said Sigrid de Vries, general director of Acea, in a statement. “For electric vehicles to become a common choice, it is essential that governments continue to establish the necessary conditions, such as tax incentives and purchase, collection infrastructure and (low) prices of electricity,” said Sigrid de Vries.

In this context, with their most accessible sales prices, hybrid cars (with a small electric battery that is recharged when driving) continue to dominate the European market (+20.8% since the beginning of the year), which swallowed a market share so far reserved for gasoline cars (-20.6%). All combined energies, the Volkswagen group continues to dominate the European market (+2.9% in April) and No. 2 Stellantis begins to limit breakage after difficult months (-1.1%), driven by its brands Peugeot, Jeep or Alfa Romeo.

Chinese

Rechargeable hybrid cars (with a gasoline engine and an electric battery that plugs to recharge) have recovered (+7.8%), especially in Germany and Spain, and represent 7.9% of the market. Chinese cars have contributed “largely” to the success of electricity and rechargeable hybrids, analyzes Jato. Chinese brands such as Byd, MG, XPEng or Leapmotor increased by 59% in a year in these categories, compared to 26% for other brands.

“It remains to be seen if the European Union will respond to the rise of Chinese rechargeable hybrids by imposing customs duties,” as it has done for electric cars, says Felipe Muñoz of the Jato Cabinet. Tesla significantly suffers the positions of his boss Elon Musk and his actions within the Dugencia, a Trump administration commission responsible for drastic cuts in federal expenses.

In the first quarter of 2025, Tesla sales fell 13% for a year, with a particularly marked flexibility in the EU, where the records were hired by 45% compared to the same period last year. Elon Musk said, however, on May 20 that Tesla’s commercial situation was already “restored” and that sales were “good.” He also indicated that he would only dedicate one day or two per week to the American Government Efficiency Commission (Doge), the rest of his time dedicated to the management of his companies, first of all, Tesla.
