It is a road user who has little habit of crossing a fast lane. Last Sunday, June 8, at the end of the morning, a rider was found by mistake in the N4 between Moirs-Verdey and Ampanne (Marne), says an article in La Unión.
Motorists have logically surprised by this scene, knowing that the N4 is a two -way road, limited to 110 km/h. A speed that, of course, is far from being able to reach a horse, with an average gallop of around 25 km/h.
Gendarmes intervention
Therefore, the police intervened quickly. While waiting for his arrival to ensure the rider, a motorist had placed himself behind the horse, in warning, to prevent other users of the potential danger.
But how could this rider find in this axis of 110 km/h? It is often a GPS that is involved for having put this person on a false track. He had just recovered his horse in the ship and joined his house in Romilly-Sur-Seine (Aube).
“He had selected a road, but his GPS did not take into account that he was on horseback,” Captain Brien told the L’Ancion newspaper.
Fortunately, the story ends well, no accident was caused and the rider was able to resume his way on an adequate path.
If there is a priori GPS a priori dedicated to these horseback trips, the ideal remains to plan its route in advance. Google Maps does not offer (yet) “equestrian mode”. However, in this application, simulating a bicycle route between the two cities of the department of Marne where the rider has been found, the route avoids this N4 to 110 km/h in any case.
