A little more reasonable prices in the second -hand market: this is what the last observatory La Centroe published this Tuesday, July 1, with an average price that passes below 20,000 euros in the second quarter of 2025.
A first place from the rambo of post-pandemic prices, underlines the specialized site. The shortage of components, with particular the deceased to provide semiconductors, had largely interrupted the automotive market. Given the fall in the production of new cars, many buyers had resorted to the occasion, which resulted in this price increase.
Therefore, the page seems finally to turn with a drop of 1,000 euros for a year (-4.76%) and an average price of an automobile used all the engines combined with 19,990 euros between April and June 2025.
An even more marked fall in electricity
If they currently represent only a small part of the sale in the second -hand market, electric vehicles also see that their prices fall significantly. Electric cars are also under this symbolic threshold of 20,000 euros, a drop of almost 3,000 euros for a year (-13%).
The increase in sales of new electric cars in recent years and the launch of more affordable models can explain this strong decrease.
The Energy Station cites the example of the Peugeot E-208, 17.5% lower for a year with an average price of ads to 16,490 euros in this second quarter of 2025. The Renault Zoé, now replaced by the new R5, is also an interesting proposal, with an increased price of 3.85% during the year, but only less than 13,000 euros.
The Tesla Model 3 shows a 12.5% decrease for its part to be an average of 27,990 euros. Beyond a “musk effect”, many factors explain the strong discount recently registered in the brand models, in recent days they indicated professionals used in BFM businesses.
French French used?
This drop in electricity prices could push some motorists to change to zero emissions: 48% of the French with a project to buy second-hand vehicles consider an electric model, says an exclusive study of the Energy Station and the Avere-France.
The reduced cost to use is cited as the first reason for the purchase, with 60 % of respondents who wish to reduce their energy expenditure and 37 % of their maintenance costs.
On the contrary, 58% of respondents believe that these vehicles are still too expensive for purchase compared to a thermal equivalent. However, as the press release of the Energy Station points out, this average price of less than 20,000 euros represents “an online level with the budget established in 80% of potential buyers.”
Among the expectations of those who still hesitate to pass there, 56% of respondents mention a specific guarantee on the battery, 48% want a detailed report on the state of battery health
“The real problem is no longer the cost, but the trust: to guarantee the state of the battery, the history of the vehicle and propose professional support. It is this trust that will take off electric,” Anaïs Armant, marketing director of the power plant, said in the press release.
Hybrids of less than 30,000 euros
But the true sales star since last year are hybrid cars. At the beginning of the year in France, they even represent more than one in two sale in the new market.
“This dynamic increases the offer in the second -hand market and reduces prices,” analyzes the power plant.
The average price of used hybrid cars, therefore, only passes below 30,000 euros, with 29,995 euros exactly, with a drop of 2,885 euros for a year (-8.77%).
With a variety of engines within this family (light hybrids, rechargeable or non-hybrid hybrids …), there is also a wide variety of prices: “The prices of the Toyota CH-R and the Yaris remain stable for a year, respectively, to 24,990 euros and 19,990 euros, while the Peugeot 3008 hybrids records a strong decrease, in 24,990 euros (-2.35%).
