A depressed French automotive market: in June, new car sales fell 6.72% for a year, to 169,504 units, according to the final data transmitted at the end of the day by the automotive platform (PFA). It is not enough to improve the results of the first 6 months of the year, with records of 7.94% to 842,203 sales.
As indicated by the provisional figures communicated in the morning, hybrid engines have emerged as a choice favored by buyers since the beginning of the year, with more than one in two sales (50.5%), mainly in the subcategory of the classic hybrid (not relaxable).
A “bonus effect” is expected at the end of 2025
Electric stabilizes its market share, with 17.6% of sales since the beginning of the year, just more than in the first half of 2024. The expectation of the bonus recorded at 3,100 euros, announced in early June for a request on July 1, could have resulted in a postponement of the purchase.
In this difficult context, the Stellantis Group (Peugeot, Fiat, Citroën, Opel, DS …) sees that its sales fall by 7.98% in June. Several brands are in Free Fall -fiat (-41.75%), Opel (-16.6%), DS (-13.95%) Citroën (-9.37%)-When Peugeot is barely positive (+0.75%).
The Volksagen Group does not work better with sales of 10.27%, with a skoda (+13.66%) that remains the only thinning in the table if we compare with the Volkswagen brand (-17.61%).
Tesla fell 40% in the first half
Tesla considers that its sales return at 10.04%, to 3,641 units in June. Again, a possible postponement of purchases with the increase in the bonus announced for July 1 and of which its sales success, the SUV Model and can benefit. But the renewal of this model by a new version is being delayed for the moment in sales figures, certainly in a market where other brands fall at an even more important rate.
The fall in Tesla sales during the first six months of the year is still worrying: -39.59%. In early 2024, Tesla had sold almost 20,000 units, compared to less than 12,000 since January 2025.
A situation that remains comparable to Volvo, for example, almost 50% for a year, with 10,650 sales in early 2024, against 5,400 in the first half of this year.
Renault is better
Ultimately, it was the Renault group that is working well, with a 5.09% increase in its sales in June. An increase particularly withdrawn by Dacia (+27%), while the Renault brand fell by 3.17%.
In the first half, the Renault group has an increase of 2.21%, where all its main competitors are down.
