Mazda targets 25-40% of electric sales by 2030 worldwide

The Japanese automaker hopes to hit 25-40% of its global sales in 100% electric cars by 2030, without giving any real details on its strategy.

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda set itself a goal on Tuesday of reaching between 25% and 40% of its global sales with electric cars by 2030, in a global context that is increasingly favorable to this type of vehicle.

Mazda has not revealed the amount of its planned investments in electric vehicles for 2030, but according to the Japanese economic newspaper Nikkei the group plans to spend around 1,500 million yen (10,300 million euros at current prices).

The manufacturer, which launched its first electric model in 2020, the MX-30 crossover -far from being a commercial success at the moment-, intends to progress in stages in this area and through numerous collaborations.

Partnership with Envision on batteries

Mazda thus announced this Tuesday collaboration agreements in electric motorization with several Japanese companies, as well as an alliance with Envision AESC for its supply of batteries.

Envision AESC, a Japanese company specializing in batteries and belonging to the Chinese group Envision, has already established important alliances with other major car manufacturers such as Nissan, Renault, Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Other Japanese manufacturers, such as Toyota (which owns 5% of Mazda) and Honda, have also announced massive investments since last year to seriously embark on all-electric technology, a segment that is both very promising but also fraught with pitfalls. .
