The electric of 140 euros per month: the second wave of “social lease” was launched at the end of September

The Government launched an interest call on Tuesday to register the rental of electric cars and requires rentals equal to or less than 140 euros for at least one supply vehicle, against 100 euros during the first wave of “social lease” in 2024.

On September 30, a second wave of “social lease” will be launched for the new electric car rental and will offer formulas less than 140 euros per month for the cheapest ones, the ministries of ecological and industry said on Tuesday. This threshold had been established at 100 euros per month during the first wave of this “social lease” in 2024. This three -year rental formula is for modest homes of the first five deciles of income (that is, a reference tax income for participation or equal to 15,400 euros) that depend on their vehicle to work, the two ministries said in a press release.

The Government launched an appeal of demonstrations of interest on Tuesday to register rental companies. It requires rentals equal or less than 140 euros for at least one offer of the offer, and less than 200 euros for all vehicles offered. The Government first announced at the end of 2024 the maintenance of the target price of the first wave, at 100 euros per month. But the amount of the maximum subsidy per vehicle has decreased this year. It was set to 13,000 euros for the first wave, including an ecological bonus, it will be in 2025 of 7,000 euros per vehicle, not cumulative with the other help devices such as the ecological bonus, according to the two ministries.

50,000 orders made for the first wave

With a cost of 370 million euros in total, this system is supposed to encourage the transition to the electric car does not depend on the state budget, in search of billions of savings. It is now based on energy savings certificates (CEE). French automotive market leaders are already in battle order and have begun to register the early orders for electric vehicles, such as Stellantis with Citroën C3 or Renault with the R5. Chinese cars are excluded from the device because they do not reach the required “environmental score.”

During the first wave, between January 1 and February 15 of last year, 50,000 orders had been made, causing an acceleration of the French market for electric cars. The beneficiaries were much younger than conventional new cars buyers, with 40 years of average age, and 51% were domiciled in rural areas, the ministries detailed.
