It is an electric SUV that passes in a year of the state of the undisputed leader to number one … of a much shorter head. Despite Tesla’s current memory, the model remains the best zero sales emission model in Europe.
Tesla launched at the beginning of the year a new version of its SUV sales star, the best car to sell in the world in 2023 and very close to the first place in 2024. With the bottom of Elon Musk’s brilliant disputes, but also of the usual difficulties by launching a new model, this modernized model was found with a rather mixed success.
A large European increase
In its latest study published at the end of July, the UNVOVV firm assumes the figures during the first four months of the year in the European market in the broad sense, that is, taking into account the 27 countries of the European Union and adding the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.
If in France, participation in the electricity market has increased very slightly in recent months (17.5% of new car sales from January to July), continues to progress in Europe: it was 17% during this period from January to April 2025, against 13% of the previous year.
Above all, while the general market is strongly decreasing in France, zero problems remain strongly at European level: 758,185 units from January to April 2025, an increase of 27.8% compared to last year. Sales that are still mainly concentrated in four markets: Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Norway represent 58% of the European market, stubborn stars.
Five models of the Volkswagen Group in the Top 10
In this context, the Tesla model remains the best sale model in the period, but with sales divided by two at this beginning of the year, with just over 30,000 units delivered, against more than 65,000 in the first four months of 2024.
In this classification of the beginning of 2025, the model was followed by Skoda Enyaq and the Volkswagen ID.7 and ID.4 (to almost 25,000 units each). If we add the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Volkswagen Group, therefore, places five models in the Top 10, against only three last year.
A Volkswagen group that, therefore, remains the leader of electricity in Europe and, with much, doubling its sales for a year: 214,578 sales since January 2025, against 101,968 in the first four months of 2024. Stellantis is far behind, with 98,321 sales and a Citroën-C3 in the eleventh place in the most popular models.
Then we found the BMW group (67,201 units), Hyundai-Kia (63,644 units) and Renault (63,028 units), with the new R5 in seventh sales in Europe.
Therefore, the French group (which also includes sales from Alpine A290 and Dacia Spring) is ahead of Tesla, which goes from almost 100,000 units last year to just over 60,000 sales at the beginning of 2025.
In the rest of the classification, we are surprised to see the Chinese group Geely also (44,189 units), but it is because it is present with well -known brands, such as Volvo, Smart or Lotus.
Then we found Mercedes (41,600 units) against the Chinese Giant Byd (25,508 sales, more than double than last year), Ford (21,940 units) that benefits in particular from the launch of its SUV explorer, and MG, which belongs to the Chinese Saic group (14,944 sales).
