It is a scourge that affects more and more motorists: theft of spare parts for cars. Cases have multiplied in recent months, +10% for a year, with an estimated cost of 600 million euros and more than 100,000 identified cases.
This is what recently happened to Benoît, owner of a Renault Clio, a model particularly led by thieves, whether the entire car or its very wanted rooms. During a night near the Stade de France, he finds his vehicle stripped of his rear seat. After fileing a complaint, he was able to repair his car:
“I paid 190 euros in my pocket, it is only the right deductible, on the other hand, on the insurance side, the total invoice amounts to around 5,800 euros,” he explains to BFMTV.
Pieces that are found more frequently in online sales sites, where you can easily find, for example, CLIO rear banks 5 to 550 euros.
The headlights represent one in three flights
Among the most stolen pieces, we find the headlights, which represent one in three flights according to the Argos Gie that brings together the various insurers. Exhaust pots are also very popular, especially with certain rare raw materials that can be found in hybrid models in particular. They arrive in the second position, with 19% of the flights, right in front of the wheels and tires, 18%.
Among the tips, avoid isolated, poorly illuminated and small parking areas. It is also possible to record the wine, the 17 -characters vehicle identification number found on the gray card in the most sensitive parts. This will not avoid the flight, but it can deter thieves by making the resale of the room more complicated.
The annual cost of automobile flights and spare parts is estimated at 600 million euros in France, says Stéphane Curtelin, marketing director and coyote products. The company offers a tracer to hide in the vehicle and now equips more than 500,000 vehicles in France. Enough to find 52 million euros in vehicles last year.
