Toyota announced on Wednesday, September 3, the assembly of a 100% electric vehicle in its Kolin factory in the Czech Republic on Wednesday, September 3, the first model of this type produced in Europe by the Japanese manufacturer, as well as an investment in a new battery assembly installation.
The car manufacturer has not revealed details about the production model or calendar, but said it will invest around 680 million euros to expand its Czech factory.
New Czech specialty
The Czech government will invest up to 64 million euros in the installation dedicated to batteries, Toyota said.
The automotive industry represents about 10% of the Czech Gross Domestic Product, and Toyota’s decision to manufacture an electric vehicle (VE) in Kolin is an essential step to “maintain automotive production in our country,” said Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, cited in the press release.
Toyota is still cautious with electricity
The main car manufacturer in the world in terms of sales, Toyota adopted a more cautious approach to faith than its traditional competitors, which was favorable during the past year, while the global demand of VE decreased.
The company has benefited from the demand for its hybrid expansion range, especially in its largest market, United States.
Earlier this year, Toyota had announced a great offensive in the European market with the launch of nine non -thermal models in the continent in 2025 and 2026, under its homonymous brand and under its high -level Lexus brand. Therefore, the vehicle produced in Kolin could be the urban cruise (photo below) or the C-HR+, two expected models for the end of 2025 or early 2026.
Toyota is currently producing Aygo X and Yaris Hybrid in his Czech factory (in addition to production in Valenciennes), which has an annual capacity of around 220,000 vehicles.
The French factory of Toyota is also the largest in the country, but focuses on hybrids. Since 2001, the Japanese group has produced more than 5 million vehicles in Valenciennes. With a production of 1,230 vehicles per day, it is the most efficient in France. As a comparison, Peugeot’s cradle in Sochaux has just left 1,040 vehicles per day.
