A successful rebirth? Born in 1924 in the suburbs of Oxford, the MG brand now has a lot of British. It is the Chinese Saic Group that has been its owner since 2006 and has begun its return to Europe since 2020 with electric and hybrid models made in China … and, therefore, with quite attractive prices.
A pioneer of Chinese brands in Europe
You can see MG as a bridge head for the arrival of Chinese manufacturers to Europe, long before the arrival of Byd, Xpeng or Leapmotor. And this “new” MG has just passed an important course in France, with its 100,000 delivery made last week:
“From the first car, an MG ZS EV delivered in the first Parisian concession in the East of East of France, Boulevard de la République, to mg ehs hybrid+ whose gray card was issued on Thursday, September 25, the road is exceptional: if we align all mg to French clients for 5 years, we could take Perpoda in Nice, or Paris D’Olonne.
Its 100% compact MG4 had a great success with a very well positioned price (especially against the Renault Mégane E-Tech), when the electric cars produced in China could still benefit from the ecological bonus and were not affected by additional customs tasks.
Very ahead of byd in France
Result, in 2023, the MG4 appeared in the sixth best sale of electric cars in France, a good performance for a brand that had just returned. The compact ended the year just behind the Peugeot E-208 and in front of the Electric Mega.
In 2025, MG retained a certain advance compared to its competitors in the French market: from January to August 2025, MG registered 17,110 vehicles in France, against 6,774 for ByD, 1.936 for Xpeng and 1,826 for Leapmotor.
