“France is essential for Stellantis”: the CEO of the automotive group wants to reassure worried employees

France will maintain its place in Stellantis’ strategy, which seeks to reassure its staff, following the announcement of massive investments in the United States.

Explain it to reassure him. The CEO of Stellantis met with unions on Monday to try to reassure them about the French-Italian-American auto giant’s future in France, just days after announcing a multibillion-dollar investment in the United States, multiple sources learned.

“For Stellantis, France represents the second country in terms of source of profits in the world and the first country in Europe,” said Antonio Filosa during a meeting with the representative unions (CFE-CGC, FO, CFDT, CFTC and CGT), according to a management statement. “France is critical to the success of Stellantis and the wider European region.”

France is the country in which Stellantis “invests the most”, with more than 2 billion euros in 2025 (that is, the same annual amount as in recent years), and 3 billion for the energy transition in total in the last five years, he added.

The group announced to unions a plan to hire 1,400 employees on permanent contracts in France in 2026 (700 executives and 700 operators and skilled workers), Stellantis and the unions said. With retirements, this should represent a slightly positive net balance, according to the management of the group, which has 39,000 employees in France.

“This regenerates our workforce, while in France we have an average age that exceeds 50 years,” according to Jean-Paul Guy, union representative of the CFTC in Vesoul. “All ‘business’ solutions will be studied in France, including Mulhouse and Poissy, which are currently suffering the most,” he added to AFP.

As for the Poissy (Yvelines) plant, which employs 2,000 employees and manufactures Opel Mokka and DS3 Crossback, an announcement will be made at the end of November or at the latest by the end of 2025, Brahim Ait Athmane and Philippe Diogo, FO representatives at the Poissy plant, told AFP. During the meeting on Monday afternoon, Antonio Filosa “assured that the industrial fabric would not be affected and that there would be no plant closures,” he added.

Poissy is supposed to produce these two cars until 2028. But some fear that the historic car factory, the last place in Ile-de-France to assemble vehicles, will cease this activity even before 2028.

The United States is Stellantis’ main profit center and the group plans to invest $13 billion there over the next four years, it announced in mid-October.
