Longest ride, highest tip: Uber reveals its most memorable trips of 2022

Births, a Paris-Barcelona trip or even a 400 meter ride, Uber drivers have had some surprising clients this year.

2022 has not escaped its share of bizarre lawsuits for Uber drivers. This year, of the several million trips, some have specially marked the VTC service. The company has unveiled its list of the most unusual races.

Paris-Barcelona

This year, the birth counter exploded. Between 2011 and 2021, twelve babies presented before reaching the hospital. But in 2022, five children were added to the list by being born in the seats of Uber cars.

Customers crossed France in 2022, literally. While one customer wanted to go to Marseille from Asnières-sur-Seine (975 kilometres), another made a similar journey in the other direction. He went to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport where he went from Nice (954 kilometers).

But those runs weren’t the longest on record this year. The record reaches 1097 kilometers. The objective was to connect Paris with Barcelona. With a bill of 1,411 euros, it is the second longest trip ever taken by Uber. It is just behind Marseille-Plumieux (Brittany), which is 1,129 kilometres.

A 400 meter race

On the other hand, the shortest route was ordered in the center of Paris. If the capital gathers many small races due to its limited size, a customer stayed less than two minutes in the VTC to reach rue Clément Marot from avenue George V. A distance of 400 meters.

Behind this curiosity is actually hidden a fact common to all small breeds. Uber says they’re all made in Paris, a city that stretches just 18 kilometers from east to west and 9.5 kilometers from north to south. Also, all these orders are placed in the middle of the night.

Finally, the company crossed the path of the most generous traveler in Bordeaux. This customer left a tip of 50.21 euros for his driver. It remains to be seen if one of the employees of the VTC company will receive a larger sum in 2023.
