Radar in Charente-Maritime warns drivers not to speed

Several motorists have received speeding tickets due to faulty radar in Charente-Maritime. In question: the radar flashed 80 km / h drivers in a departmental limited to 90.

Not far from La Rochelle, on the departmental road 137 between Tonnay-Charente and Saintes, a hundred drivers were detected by faulty radar, Sud Ouest and Capital reported. The device, installed since the beginning of September, began to use its flash of light excessively since the beginning of December. Problem: The radar also flashes to motorists obeying the speed limit.

Several fines already sent

“The autonomous radar of Tonnay Charente that flashes BY ERROR from 80km/h (speed limited to 90)”, he explains InfoTrafic17’s Twitter account who questions the prefect of the department about this situation.

Many users of this department also shared their annoyance after having received a fine of 68 euros as well as the withdrawal of card points, considering it their right. And for good reason: a traffic sign showing 90 is placed right in front of the speed camera in question. Which is visibly set to 80.

A bug not yet fixed

For those who have already paid their fine to avoid sanctions, the CACIR (Automated Traffic Violation Observation Center) must contact them again to cancel the fine, withdraw points and obtain a refund. Those who have not carried out any procedure must wait for an official document certifying the cancellation of the ticket.
