New car registrations in France should show an increase in
December, for the fifth month in a row, but not necessarily enough for the French car market to turn green again for the year, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
After long months of decline in a context of component shortages and concerns about inflation and the international situation, registrations have been picking up since August thanks to the recovery in deliveries.
But the magnitude of the December rise, which will be published by the Automotive Industry Platform (PFA) on Sunday, will tell if the timid 2021 rebound is confirmed, or if it has faded. Cumulatively through November, the French car market remained down 8.7%.
