Automotive: Stellantis Unveils Prototype of Future Ram Electric Pickups

At the main electronics fair in Las Vegas, Stellantis presented its latest Ram 1500 Revolution BEV model on Thursday, a prototype of the brand’s future electric trucks.

Stellantis unveiled a prototype of its Ram brand’s future electric pickup trucks Thursday during a presentation at the main electronics show in Las Vegas, during which a new Peugeot archetype was also unveiled.

Called the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV, the model remains a concept that will evolve. Among its features are doors that open like a double window, more interior space, a retractable steering wheel that can make room for a computer, a third row of folding seats in the rear.

The group did not specify how far the vehicle could go on a single charge, saying only that it could go up to 100 miles after around 10 minutes at a fast-charging station.

The first model is expected by 2024 in a market where Ram’s main competitors in the United States have already made their mark: Ford has been marketing its popular F-150 Lightning since spring, while Chevrolet’s (General Motors) electric Silverado and Tesla Cybertruck is expected to be available in 2023.

The idea is to bring “the right truck, with the right features, at the right time,” brand manager Mike Koval said. “That’s what makes the difference between building an electric brand and just a new electric truck,” he added. The group will outperform its competitors in terms of range, towing, payload and reload time, he said.

A new entity dedicated to data

Stellantis also highlighted Peugeot on Thursday by unveiling a concept car to inspire the brand’s next generation of vehicles, called the Inception Concept.

Electric, with a “cat” appearance according to Peugeot director Linda Jackson, the car notably offers, instead of the steering wheel, a rectangular touch-operated surface, which can be retracted to make way for a panoramic screen that runs the full width vehicle.

The manufacturer also took advantage of the event to announce the creation of a new entity dedicated to the exploitation of data recovered from vehicles, called Mobilisights.

“Used effectively, sensor data and other data collected by connected vehicles can be the source of a wide range of services and applications with undeniable advantages, ranging from personalized insurance based on usage, to detection of risks on the road, going through traffic management”, said its director, Sanjiv Ghate, in a press release.
