The Toyota Yaris Cross will become the most produced car in France in 2022, the Inovev firm announced this Wednesday, January 25. The “crossover” version of the Yaris, born in 2021, registered a volume of 161,508 units produced on French soil last year, ahead of the Peugeot 3008 by only 2,342 units (159,166 units in 2022).
Inovev explains that the sedan version of the Yaris is produced mainly at the Czech plant in Kolin, freed up by the cessation of production of the Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108 last year. While some Yaris are still produced at the Onnaing (north) site, the French factory cannot produce all Yaris and Yaris Cross.
No Renault model in the ranking
The Japanese manufacturer’s Czech plant produces both the Toyota Yaris sedan and the Toyota Aygo, which has become Aygo X since its facelift last year, says the firm specializing in the automotive industry.
As a result, the production volume in France of the Toyota Yaris sedan in 2022 is lower than that of the Opel Mokka. The Opel Mokka, manufactured in Poissy (Yvelines), “could also enter the top 3 of vehicles produced in France next year,” according to Inovev.
The firm highlights the absence of Renault models in the ranking, models all manufactured abroad. The Clio is produced in Turkey and Slovenia, the Captur and Mégane in Spain, the Twingo in Slovenia and the Arkana in South Korea.
