Tesla Inc announced a recall of 3,470 Model Y vehicles from 2022 to 2023 in the United States because the bolts that secure the seatback frames may not have been tightened properly, according to a document made public Saturday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has specified that a loose seat frame bolt could reduce the performance of the seat belt system, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
No accidents noted according to Tesla
Tesla told NHTSA that it has identified five warranty claims since December that may be related to the problem. The electric carmaker added that it is not aware of any related injuries or deaths.
Tesla will inspect the bolts that attach the driver and passenger side rear seat back frames to the lower seat frames and, if necessary, tighten them to specification.
In December, a Tesla supplier implemented enhanced process controls and a training and supervision system to ensure bolts are tightened to specification, the automaker said.
