The bicycle plan “endowed with 250 million euros in 2023”, according to Matignon

The bicycle plan fund will be endowed with 250 million euros. 200 million euros will be allocated to infrastructure and 50 million euros to car parks. An “interministerial cycling committee” will meet every six months

The fund for the bicycle plan will be “endowed with 250 million euros in 2023,” Matignon said Tuesday, for the fourth anniversary of this plan endowed in principle with 500 million until 2025. An “interministerial bicycle committee”, which will integrate all the interested ministers, will also be launched in the autumn and will meet every six months.

The “active mobility fund”, which allows the financing of infrastructures, will be inscribed “in a logic of contracting with the communities, so that the investments are focused and effective. It will be endowed with 250 million euros by 2023; 200 million will be dedicated to infrastructure and 50 million euros to car parks”, according to Matignon.

“The multiannual allocation is yet to be defined, because it will be part of the global reflection on transport infrastructure, based in particular on the infrastructure guidance council that will be delivered this fall,” according to this source.

“Know how to ride a bike”

At the end of 2018, the government of Édouard Philippe, of which Élisabeth Borne was then Minister of Transport, announced a national “bicycle plan” that notably established a fund of 350 million euros over seven years (2018-2025), supplemented with an additional 150 million euros for the recovery plan decided after the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the website of the Ministry of Ecology, “the first 5 calls for projects launched between 2019 and 2022 were a great success with 933 winning projects for a total of 365 million euros in grants. 599 territories were thus able to benefit from “support for the implementation of projects for the sustainability of transition cycle paths, the creation of safe cycle paths and the reduction of discontinuities in the routes”.

The bicycle plan, which now runs until 2027, also aims to bring the “know how to ride a bicycle” device in primary school to an entire age group, which has benefited 160,000 children over three years.
