Fuel prices: at 1.65 euros per liter, diesel returns to its level of January 2022

The average price of diesel in France fell 1 cent last week, returning to its level of January 2022.

The price of diesel was still on a downward trend last week. On average in France, the most consumed fuel stood at 1.6555 euros per liter, 1 cent less than the previous week, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy Transition stopped on Friday, May 12.

For its part, the 95-E10 without lead loses 1.8 cents, to stand at 1.8223 euros per liter, still at the national average. Which somewhat narrows the gap with diesel, while the price difference between the two fuels had reached a level not seen since June 2016 last week.

Back to January 2022 price

We have to go back to January 2022, just before the start of the war in Ukraine, to find this level of diesel prices.

In September, still last year, diesel had dropped to a minimum price of 1,659 euros per liter. But, during this period, fuels benefited from a state discount of 30 cents per liter, which was combined with Totalenergies’ 20 cent discount.

Fuel prices remain at relatively high levels in France compared to our main neighbors, as a survey conducted by BFM Business in early May shows.

According to the CLCV consumer association, the gross margin of “distribution transport” has risen from 15 to 25 cents since the beginning of the year.

The Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, for her part, reiterated her calls to distributors so that fuel prices “fall faster” and reflect “as faithfully as possible” the fall in international oil prices .
