“A car and a work of art”: auction of a unique wooden 2CV in the world

A wooden 2CV, built by a hobbyist and authorized to circulate on the road, will be auctioned on June 4. The auctioneers estimate that it could go for more than 176,000 euros.

It is a unique car in the world and collectors are passionate about it. A wooden Citroën 2CV, estimated at between 150,000 and 200,000 euros, will be auctioned on Sunday June 4 at Montbazon, in Indre-et-Loire.

“It is the only wooden car in the world in perfect working order. It is an exceptional sale. It is both a unique car and a work of art,” according to Aymeric Rouillac, one of the auctioneers.

The auctioneers estimated the car based on the “world record for a 2CV”, sold for €176,000. This “has the potential to break the record”, bets Aymeric Rouillac.

Apple and pear body

The body of the 2CV, of the AZKA type and dating from 1955, was made entirely of fruit wood by the carpenter and carpenter Michel Robillard. “La Belle Lochoise” is made of walnut for the fenders, pear and apple for the body, as well as cherry for the doors and trunk.

“The car passed the technical inspection, it has a gray card from 1957, it is registered, insured and therefore it can circulate,” said Aymeric Rouillac.

Michel Robillard, who made wooden models for Ferrari in particular, began building his 2CV in 2011. “I spent five years of my life there, 5,000 hours of work, passion, day and sometimes night. And the 2CV left my workshop while I was driving in September 2017”, he recalled on the occasion of the next auction.

“I have a pang in my heart. But I already have another crazy project in mind: the realization of a DS21 Cabriolet coupé Chapron, in 27 months, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the DS”, announced the retiree.
