This is one of the ways to better remunerate VTC drivers. In their ongoing discussions for better salary conditions, the unions that represent the self-employed and the main platforms, such as Uber, Heetch or Freenow, have proposed establishing an “hourly rate”, which would start when the driver accepts a ride, an article points out. of Parisian.
An “approach time” billed as taxis
A pricing similar to that known as “approach time”, which taxis practice, with a meter that is activated as soon as the race is ordered, but which VTC has not practiced until now. However, in this situation, some drivers currently prefer to reject the race, with this approach time potentially being longer than the race itself.
“We know we would lose money, it’s useless,” he explains to the Parisian the president of the French VTC association, Karim Daoud.
Target gross hourly rate at 15 euros
This taking into account the approximation time is part of the project to establish a minimum wage for VTC drivers, to get closer to the minimum wage per hour in the private sector, aiming at 15 euros gross per hour, according to Grégoire Leclercq, president of the National Federation of Autoentrepreneurs (FNAE).
The difficulty persists in establishing the average level of expenses that a driver supports, while there are significant cost differences between each VTC, whether for fuel, insurance or even the repayment of the loan for the purchase of the professional vehicle.
After the establishment of a minimum price of the race at 9 euros since the beginning of the year (including 7.65 euros for the pilot), the next step, therefore, aims to establish this minimum salary for the profession.
A minimum wage in Heetch from June
The Heetch platform has also chosen to launch it from June: “It will be guaranteed that drivers who drive with Heetch earn a minimum of 30 euros net per hour of travel. If at the end of the week their profitability is below this threshold, Heetch will refund the difference”, underlines a press release issued this Thursday, May 25.
A platform that wants to be an example to follow, after having implemented a minimum race price of 10 euros since July 2022. Its algorithm has also been made public to offer drivers “clear visibility into the race award process.”
