Pay equality does not yet exist among executives… The proportion of them that has increased may have clearly progressed in the past year, but more men (59%) than women (54%) have benefited from an increase in your salary.
And with an equivalent profile and position, a male executive still earns 7% more than a female colleague. A situation unchanged for… 10 years. What Gilles Gateau, APEC Director General deplores: “The pay increases for executives in 2022 – once again! – have had no effect in reducing pay inequalities between male and female executives. A disturbing observation, which has been repeated year after year for 10 years Talking about it, making laws, setting goals and indices is fine, but… that is clearly not enough, we must act stronger and faster! Accelerate in the fight against these inequalities, change the mentality of leaders and managers, finally recognize abilities regardless of gender”.
A widening gap with age
This salary gap between male and female executives persists and even increases with age. With equivalent profiles and positions, it reaches 10% for those over 55, compared to 3% for those under 35, according to data from the APEC barometer.
A wage gap that is partly explained by the profile differences between women and men. Executive women, who are relatively younger than their male colleagues, are, for example, underrepresented in positions of hierarchical responsibility.
