UV filters, air conditioning, luggage: how the SNCF wants you to spend a cooler summer

The operator announces a series of measures and services that will be gradually implemented to make summer trips more comfortable.

Summer is the season of all dangers for the SNCF. The influx that promises to increase has already made places difficult to find, which is causing discontent among travelers. Another delicate topic: the efficiency of the air conditioning (which suffered numerous breakdowns last year) or the eternal challenge of finding a place for your large suitcase.

But the SNCF has a plan. A plan very well named as “tropicalization of trains”. Clearly, the operator first explains that he took various actions before, during, and after the summer term.

Good practices for air conditioning

As for the air conditioning, the SNCF thus ensures that it has already acted “in advance of the preventive substitutions of organs linked to the air conditioning, to prevent them from occurring during the summer”.

Since zero risk does not exist, the SNCF sets up a telephone cell to assist on-board managers (controllers) if necessary, and communicates good practices for maintaining the temperature in cars (lowering curtains in the cabins, close cabin doors and windows, etc.).

The operator also announces that this summer it will test the installation of anti-UV films on the windows of around twenty TGV trains.

White paint

On the old Corail side, an experiment has been launched to paint the roofs of cars white. “A report will make it possible to determine the gain in terms of lowering the temperature and launching the deployment in a greater number of trains,” explains the carrier.

To avoid delays due to forgotten luggage, the SNCF wants to make QR Code labels widespread so that you do not have to record your coordinates on the label. During the year 2023, one million of these labels will be distributed.

Lastly, SNCF announces the launch of the “Baggage Assistant” service to help people store their luggage on board the TGV Inoui from the platform and inside the car, thus avoiding the recurring problem of lack of space in the spaces for bulky luggage, which inevitably causes traffic jams for passengers and, above all, the risk of collisions, especially when the temperature is maximum.
