Subsidy does not reach 41% of the unemployed

In May, there were 117,000 unemployed without unemployment benefits.

The number of people seeking employment through the IEFP totaled 285,855 in May, with just 168,475 receiving unemployment benefits.

The number of registrations at job centers decreased both compared to April (-9,567 persons, or -3.2%) and compared to May 2022 (-10,539 persons, or -3.6%).

There was a similar downward trend in the number of unemployment benefit beneficiaries, with a decrease of 4% compared to April and 15.4% compared to May last year.

The average value of the subsidy paid out in the last month rose to 575.31 euros, which represents a slight increase of 0.5% in a month, but an increase of 6.5% in a year.

According to the IEFP, there were 16,943 unfilled vacancies at the end of May, 4,948 less than a year earlier, but 1,475 more compared to April.

At the regional level, only the Alentejo (+2.8%) and the Center (+1%) saw an increase in the number of unemployed in a year.
