The main union of the hotel and restaurant employers’ association, Umih, indicated this Friday that French hoteliers “were experiencing a wave of cancellations of their reservations” in the areas affected by the violence unleashed by the death of Nahel, shot dead by a policeman in the Paris region.
Since June 27 and the death of the 17-year-old teenager, “several cities in France are experiencing very strong tensions that translate into violence.” , looting and destruction of shops, including some restaurants and their terraces,” laments the president of Umih, chef Thierry Marx, in a press release.
Umih calls on public authorities to act
“Our hoteliers are suffering a wave of cancellations of their reservations in all the territories affected by destruction and confrontations,” he denounces, adding that “the attack, the destruction or even the destruction of a restaurant or a bar is unjustifiable.”
“Our establishments are intrinsically places of reception and, sometimes, even shelters and places of help in crisis situations. They must not suffer the consequences of the anger they have not aroused and we condemn these actions”, continues Thierry Marx.
It indicates that the federation “is and will be at the side of the affected professionals to support them in their approach.”
