Gazprom completely suspended its gas deliveries for Saturday to Eni, citing the “impossibility of transporting gas through Austria”, the Italian hydrocarbons giant announced in a press release.
This Saturday, “consequently, Russian gas flows to Eni through the Tarvisio entry point will be zero,” he added. Most of the Russian gas sent to Italy passes through Ukraine, through the TAG gas pipeline that reaches Tarvisio, in the north of the country, on the border with Austria.
Russian gas down
According to an Eni spokesman quoted by the Italian news agency AGI, “Gazprom states that it cannot comply with the necessary rules to obtain the gas distribution service in Austria where it should deliver it, while “it follows that Austria continues to receive gas in the delivery point at the border between Slovakia and Austria”.
Russian gas exports to Europe have been steadily declining since the start of sanctions against Russia. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Eni announced in early March that it would sell its 50% stake in the Blue Stream gas pipeline, which it controls equally with the Russian giant Gazprom.
