Coca-Cola agrees to lower the price of some of its references. “In order to preserve the purchasing power of the French”, the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners France (CCEP) group announces to LSA that it will apply a 10% promotion on its sugar-free drinks and bottles as of August 1 big sold in supermarkets
The operation, which is supposed to last three months, will therefore affect Coca-Cola Sin Azúcares and its variants (Cherry, caffeine-free, etc.) in bottles of 1 liter or more, as well as Fanta, Sprite and Fuze Tea in its sugar-free versions in bottles of 1.25 liters and more.
The group adds that “inflation is not good for anyone and has never stopped talking to its retail customers in recent months.” A reference to the recent tensions between the big retailers that urged manufacturers to renegotiate their prices downwards in a context of falling raw materials.
Strained relationships between manufacturers and distributors
At the behest of Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, the 75 largest food manufacturers representing 80% of the market had agreed in mid-May to reopen trade negotiations with distributors to alleviate household purchasing power. But since then, relations between the two parties have remained tense.
At the end of June, dealers mentioned “minor discussions” but not the resumption of “business negotiations” in the strict sense. “A handful of providers are giving signals, but very few,” lamented System U boss Dominique Schelcher in particular on Radio Classique. “We may be starting to talk about promotions but we don’t have anything materialized significantly,” he lamented.
Regarding food prices, “there is not much that is going to go down”, the president of the strategic committee of the E.Leclerc centers, Michel-Edouard Leclerc, had abounded in FranceInfo. “Of the 75 suppliers of Ania (National Association of Agri-food Industries), some even offer us increases,” he had denounced, before asking the Government to “take legal measures” to force the hand of the industrialists.
