Patrick Martin wants to “bring together without delay” the social partners to draw up “a shared diagnosis”

Newly elected head of Medef on Thursday, Patrick Martin spoke into the BFM Business microphone about the first decisions he will make as boss of bosses.

Patrick Martin is already setting the tone. Elected this Thursday to the presidency of Medef, the businessman did not wait for his inauguration on July 17 to reveal the main lines of his mandate at the head of the employers’ association. In particular, he mentioned a “rolling start” position, recalling that he has been alongside outgoing president Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux for five years (until then he was Medef’s number 2).

While the unions and employers are received next Wednesday in Matignon, Patrick Martin indicated that his first decision would be to propose a meeting to all the social partners.

He also wants to “create a session with a VP “Foresight and Ideas” to “illuminate the public debate and raise a number of questions” to escape “anxious and irrational debates” whether it’s about artificial intelligence or about “the consequences of changes.” employment demographics. In the short and medium term, he also recalled that Medef must get involved in the social security financing bill.

Social dialogue, unemployment insurance and training

“Dynamic, efficient and autonomous”: it is with these three adjectives that Patrick Martin has defined the social dialogue he wishes to undertake.

On the subject of unemployment insurance, he confirmed that the prospect of an agreement with the unions was “to date quite remote” while stressing that this situation has not been fixed.

The new president of Medef finally returned to one of the key points of his program: training and more particularly the reform of vocational secondary schools. “Our companies are going to have to get involved from the upstream, that is to say from the orientation stage, then to welcome the interns and then to hire them because they will have been trained in skills that correspond to the needs of the economy,” he explained.

Finally, it has extended this necessary integration into the labor market to young people, the elderly or even RSA beneficiaries “for those who are willing to lend themselves to the exercise in the coming years.” A barely concealed nod to the denounced reform of the active solidarity income.
