Pasta, sunflower oil, poultry… The price reductions promised by the largest industrial groups reach the shelves. Given the relaxation observed in the cost of raw materials, “with Bruno Le Maire we have asked the 75 largest manufacturers to lower their prices quickly,” the delegate minister for SMEs, Olivia Grégoire, recalled on Sud Radio on Thursday, and “we are reaching some forty manufacturers that will make a very concrete effort of -5 to -7 or -8% from July”.
Specifically, 39 manufacturers out of 75 have agreed to lower the prices of certain references between July and September. According the parisianinclude Japanese noodles from Solinest (average decrease of 10% in July), white yoghurts and dessert cream from Danone (-18%), sunflower and rapeseed oils from Lesieur (-15%), Coca-Cola without sugar (-10 % in August), three references of Bonduelle vegetable preserves (-10%), Haribo confectionery (-7.5%), Mars Petcare animal feed (-10%) or Trèfle de Sofidel toilet paper (-7%) .
Commercial renegotiations or promotions?
And the price cuts “will increase month by month,” we promise from the Bercy side. Please note, however, that these are averages. The extent of the reductions will not necessarily be the same from one brand to another. Especially since some manufacturers have renegotiated lower prices with some dealers, but not with others…
Furthermore, some of the price reductions are not the result of trade renegotiations, but only of promotions that, by definition, will not last. This is, for example, the case of sugar-free drinks from the Coca-Cola group, whose prices will drop 10% on August 1 for a period of three months.
36 manufacturers not affected
Twenty manufacturers out of the 75 are still not concerned about the negotiations because their raw materials have not gone down (sugar, plastic). Another thirteen are excluded “because there is an important chain with our farmers”, Olivia Grégoire specified, “milk and pork are excluded at our request”. “Thirteen manufacturers are excluded from the negotiations, 20 have not seen the price of raw materials fall, 40 are making an effort,” she summarized.
“If we have tricksters, industrialists who have had falls (in the prices of raw materials) and who do not transmit them, we will not hesitate to name the actors who are irresponsible in the period,” he said. “Food inflation was almost 16% in March, it’s 13.6% in June, it’s beginning to fall,” he added.
