Turkish airline Pegasus orders 36 Airbus A321neos

Pegasus will expand and renew its fleet with 36 narrow-body aircraft from the Toulouse-based manufacturer. Despite a well-filled order book for Airbus, the low-cost Turkish airline expects delivery by 2029.

Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines announced on Friday that it has ordered 36 Airbus A321neos, the largest version of the European aircraft maker’s flagship single-aisle jet. This firm order brings to 150 the number of A320 Family aircraft purchased since 2012 by the airline, it said in a press release.

Pegasus Airlines has said it expects to take possession of the aircraft by 2029, while Airbus’ schedule for the A320 family is full until 2029-2030, an apparent contradiction that the manufacturer says is explained by the fact that the company has , for this operation, exercised purchase options already signed several years ago. The amount of the contract was not specified.

According to the latest Airbus catalog price, which has not been updated since 2018 and is never applied anyway, it would reach $4.67 billion.

A new assembly line for Airbus

In a single class “low cost” configuration, the A321neo purchased by Pegasus will be equipped with 239 seats and will allow the company “both to expand and renew (its) fleet,” said the airline’s general manager Güliz Öztürk, quoted in the report. Press release

The A321neo represents more than 60% of the Airbus order book for the A320 family, which exceeds 6,000 units to be delivered in total. The planemaker inaugurated a new assembly line for these planes in Blagnac, near Toulouse, on Monday, aiming to boost its global production toward its target of 75 a month by mid-decade from 45 by 2022.

Founded in 1990 and based at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, southeast of Istanbul, Pegasus Airlines flies to 129 destinations, including 93 abroad.
