Russia suspends its participation in the agreement on grain exports to the Black Sea, the Kremlin announced Monday. This agreement, concluded in July 2022 by Russia and Ukraine after the mediation of the UN and Turkey, aims to avoid a world food crisis by allowing Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea in complete safety despite the conflict in Ukraine. .
Signed just a year ago, this “corridor” expires on Monday and since August 2022 has allowed the export of about 33 million tons of cereals from Ukrainian ports.
Extension conditions considered “not fulfilled”
After several extensions, it is scheduled to expire on Monday and Russia has been repeating for weeks that the conditions for a new extension do not exist.
Moscow judges in particular that its own grain and fertilizer exports are hampered. Russia also accused Ukraine on Monday of an attack on the Crimean Bridge over the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea and the Azov Sea.
