A huge popular success, the SNCF Advantage Card is evolving. Not necessarily in a good way for the 4.5 million people who hold it in their hands.
For 49 euros a year, this card allows you to benefit from reduced rates of 30% and with a cap, designed for people between the ages of 28 and 59 to make part of their trip over a weekend.
What changes on August 29
These caps were 39 euros for trips of less than 1 hour 30 minutes, 59 euros for trips between 1 hour 30 minutes and 3 hours, and 79 euros for longer trips.
As of August 29, they will increase by 10 euros, thus amounting respectively to:
- 49 euros maximum for journeys of less than 1 hour 30 minutes,
- 69 euros maximum for journeys between 1 hour 30 and 3 hours,
- 89 euros maximum for journeys of more than 3 hours.
Why this increase?
Once again, the SNCF highlights an increase in its costs (+13% this year), particularly due to the rise in electricity. At the beginning of the year, its TGV fares increased by an average of 5% while a shield was applied to other fares such as Ouigo.
But specify that “this evolution is therefore only an adaptation of the maximum price level in 2nd class for our customers inserted with the Avantage card, not even for the majority of the beneficiaries of the Avantage card because they pay in most cases less at the maximum price”.
What does not change on August 29
Nothing changes for SNCF customers who do not have this card.
The purchase price of the card remains at 49 euros (annual) as well as the 30% bonus and the 60% bonus for accompanying children between 4 and 11 years of age.
In addition, all tickets purchased until August 29 for trips until December 9 benefit from the current maximum limits.
“SNCF Voyageurs had committed to maintaining the 3 maximum guaranteed price levels for the Avantage card until the end of summer 2023 to give the French the opportunity to enjoy a great summer,” the operator underlines.
Let’s remember that the SNCF announced on Monday that it will put 300,000 TGV tickets on sale at locked prices for the month of August.
These tickets will be offered at 29, 39 or 49 euros depending on the destination. They will go on sale on July 31 and August 1 and will affect summer destinations for traffic from August 1 to 31. As usual, the first to arrive will be the first to be served.
In addition, the offer of 200,000 Intercités tickets at 19 euros each way initially available until July 15 is extended until August 31.
