We now know the three sites that should house the six next-generation EPR2 reactors by 2037.
As a reminder, the EDF project refers to the construction of six reactors on three existing sites. If the first two sites were already known (Penly in the Seine-Maritime and Gravelines in the north), two others were in competition to host the latest project: Tricastin in the Drôme and Bugey in Ain.
It is for this last site that Emmanuel Macron seems to have decided. According to Les Echos, the head of state made this decision during a meeting of the nuclear policy council on Wednesday.
The “median” cost of these six EPR2 is estimated at 51,700 million euros, excluding financing costs, to which 4,600 million would be added in case of difficulty of execution, a government audit indicated in 2022.
Located 45 km east of Lyon, the Bugey nuclear power plant was commissioned between 1972 and 1979. Its four active reactors have a capacity of 900 MW.
Hearing this Wednesday by the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Luc Rémont, general director of EDF, estimated that the company had to pass at a level of 25 billion euros of investments per yearof which 80% dedicated to France.
