Movie theaters have color again. A guest of Good Morning Business, the president of the National Federation of Cinemas (FNC) Richard Patry welcomed the good results of the sector for the 2023 financial year: “We have symbolically surpassed the bar of 100 million viewers since the beginning of the year. For us, the figure of 200 million viewers is in the viewer. We have a very diversified program with American films that are successful, very good French films, a French palm at the Cannes festival”.
The good health of French cinema stands out in particular, whose market share is “higher than that of American films” in 2023. “We have many French films that have done well,” he points out. “The first movie is Super Mario Mario, but the next two are ‘Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire’ and ‘Alibi.com 2’.”
“Greener Cinemas”
The FNC representative was also questioned about movie ticket prices, which have been on a strong upward trend for several years.
Richard Patry justifies these fees by the need to remunerate authors but also by investing in “more ecological, greener” cinemas.
Finally, the president of the National Federation of Cinemas referred to the strike of actors and screenwriters in the United States that “worries a lot” to the sector “because it is likely that it will continue even if it is only about American films.” “I think there will also be a consultation in our country, but for the moment there are no such strong actions announced in France”, he nevertheless recalled.
