The supply of vacancies falls by 13.5% in June and is accompanied by a reduction in the number of unemployed

Job postings received by job centers across the country fell by 10,233 in the month of June. This is according to data from the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) released yesterday, a decrease of 13.5% compared to the same month of 2022 (1592 fewer offers) and 19.8% compared to May (fewer 2527).
The sectors with the most vacancies last month were “real estate, administrative and support services”, with 23.2% of the total, “accommodation, hospitality and similar activities”, with 12.4%, and “wholesale and retail trade”, with 12.2% of new vacancies.

As for the placements of the unemployed registered in employment offices, they totaled 7659, a number representing a decrease of 1.2% compared to June 2022 and minus 9.2% compared to the month of May.
On the mainland, about a third of placements (32%) were for “unskilled workers” (2358), followed by “workers in personal, security and safety services and salespeople” (1599 people, 21.7% of the total), and “Administrative Staff” (792 subscribers), weighing 10.8% in total postings last month.

According to the IEFP, there were a total of 16,511 vacancies across the country at the end of June, which “corresponds to a decrease in the number of registered offers, both in the annual analysis (-5226, -24%) and compared to the previous month (- 432, -2.5%).

Lisbon and Tagus Valley is the region of the country with the most registered vacancies at the end of June, 6114, which corresponds to 37% of the total. It is a decrease of 21.3% compared to June 2022 and 2.7% compared to the month of May. The Center follows with 3677 offers (22.3% of the total), 26.7% less than in the same period of the previous year and 4.2% less than in the previous month. The North region focuses on 3,167 vacancies reported to job centers (19.2% of the group), representing a decrease of 26.7% compared to June last year and 4% compared to May.

Less unemployed

The number of unemployed people registered in the country’s employment centers fell again for a fifth consecutive month and was the lowest in a month of June. In the sixth month of the year, 277,742 people were registered, a decrease of 2.8% compared to the month of May and a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%, data released yesterday by the IEFP reveal .

Accounts drawn up, in the reporting period there was a decrease of 8133 people in employment offices compared to May and 4711 people less compared to June 2022.
“For the decrease in registered unemployment, compared to the same month of 2022, in absolute terms, the groups of individuals aged 25 or over (4630 minus), those looking for a new job (3935 minus ) and those who are registered have been for 12 months or more (less 25,842)”, the IEFP indicates.

The Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security stressed in a statement that unemployment recorded in June is “the lowest ever” for this month.
The number of unemployed young people up to the age of 25 also fell, with a chain decrease of -7.7% (2,322 less young people) compared to the previous month, and -0.3% (less 81 young people) compared to the same month.

The same trend was observed in long-term unemployment, with 2139 people less (-1.9%) compared to May, and 25 842 people less registered compared to June 2022 (-18.8%).

The number of unemployed couples also recorded a chain decrease of -1.7% in June (79 fewer unemployed couples) and -2% on an annual basis.
IEFP data also shows that, in addition to the more than 277,000 registered unemployed, at the end of June 45,141 people were employed, 102,011 “occupied” (in special employment programs) and 20,409 “temporarily unavailable”. In total there were 445,313 applications at the end of last month, 3.1% less than in the same period last year.
