The wool stocking is full to bursting. The French voted for Livret A, currently paid at 3%, in the first half of the year, placing 25.840 million euros more in it than they withdrew, according to data from the Caisse des dépôts published this Friday. Unprecedented since the generalization of this savings system to all banks in 2009. In total, there are already 401,300 million euros based on the Livrets A of the French, again a record level.
In June, deposits also exceeded withdrawals, ie 1.34 billion euros net more for this savings account held in France by more than 55 million savers. This is the “worst” month since the beginning of the year in terms of collection, but the month of June is traditionally mixed for Livret A. Despite everything, it is the second best month of June after the one achieved in June 2020, during the confinement .
Rate maintained at 3% until 2025
Parallel to Livret A, the Livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS), remunerated under the same conditions, has accumulated an additional 830 million euros, bringing net inflows since the beginning of the year to 8.7 billion euros, which is already more than for all of 2022. In total, therefore, 143,000 million euros are invested in this savings product.
If we combine LDDS and Livret A, the total balances now reach 544.3 billion euros. It remains to be seen if the Livret A will continue to be so attractive to the French in the coming months after the government’s decision to freeze its rate at 3% until January 2025 (when it should have risen to 4% in August to stick to inflation). . excluding tobacco).
